Margaret (she/her) is a consultant clinical psychologist as well as a registered nurse and established researcher with many international publications. Margaret draws on a wealth of experience to provide top-tier consultation, trainings, and professional supervision. Margaret is also an established researcher, with many international publications.
Margaret draws together her clinical and academic backgrounds to translate complex mental health concepts and research into everyday language, to help people experiencing mental health issues and those who care about them, understand their diagnoses and a way forward.
Margaret also supports human resource and health professionals to work better with consumers of mental health services, helping co-workers to understand the interpersonal and behavioural nuances of the individual, balancing compassion and accountability to find a way forward.
Margaret has been featured on Radio New Zealand and NewsHub, has over thirty peer-reviewed publications, and has published book chapters on mental health, outcome measurement, clinical assessment, and end of life care.
Margaret has over twenty years of experience as a health professional, starting her nursing training at age 17. Margaret’s experience as an intensive care nurse sparked a life-long passion for guiding patients and their families through the most difficult times in their lives. It was there that Margaret learned to use her skills and knowledge to translate complex and intimidating medical and psychological experiences into clear, everyday language, building comfort and confidence for the family and patient. Margaret’s colleagues recognised her ability to work with challenging clients and encouraged her to follow her interest in mental health. She undertook a doctorate in clinical psychology, and then became an academic in the Nursing program at AUT. Margaret now is an Associate Professor for the prestigious clinical psychology training programme at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand.
Born in New Zealand, Margaret has two children and a Fox Terrier dog. She enjoys spending the weekends in the garden, bush, or sea. Margaret is based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland,
